| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the academic year 2020-2021, the research team has progressed in drafting a systematic literature review based conceptual paper. Part of industrial based of draft writing is to be included as part of content in a book to be published with Cambridge University Press, an internationally reputed publisher. The book title is People Centric Innovation Ecosystem: Japanese Management and Practices. The content related to this project is about the innovativeness of Japanese video game industry and characters through the evolution of the global industry.
The first phase of empirical data collection is about qualitative case research, which has been progressed with data collected and analyzed. It is still pending on further refinement and manuscript writing for the completion of this phase.
For the second phase of quantitative research, it is planned to have data collection with the research design to be refined and initiate the second phase of empirical data collection soon.

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The COVID-19 and its unexpected prolonged duration has brought certain difficulty in the implementation of the project, especially in the first phase of qualitative data collection which often involves more personal contacts. The restriction of travel and of event organizations also makes it more complicated to establish relationship from these trips and public events. Contingent measures for the project implementation have been carried out with some progress in the project implementation though a delay is also present.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Travel restrictions and unpredictability of COVID-19 evolution made it hard to establish communication, network building, and promotion of the research project. While we will continue the effort on these aspects, we have also initiated the contingent plan to execute the project implementation on the data collection phases. The second phase of quantitative data collection will be initiated and continuing efforts on the project implementation and research outcome will be made.

| Causes of Carryover |
The major cause of the unused fund was due to the travel restriction during COVID-19. If the travel restriction caused by the situation of COVID-19 is lift and at the same time the project continues to be executed albeit the delay, the initial planning remains although some contingent adjustments are introduced.
