Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examines how the presence or absence of inbound and outbound open innovation activity affects firms' earnings. The results indicate that inbound open innovation has a significant positive impact on firms' profits, while outbound open innovation has no impact on firms' profits. This suggests that firms have incentives to actively adopt and develop external technologies, while they have no or very weak incentives to actively provide their own technologies to external parties.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究により，企業には外部の技術を積極的に取り込んで開発を実施するインセンティブがあるのに対して，自社技術を積極的に外部に提供するインセンティブが無い，もしくは非常に弱いことが示唆された．すなわち，オープン・イノベーション活動を通じた生産性向上の課題として，企業が死蔵している技術情報の公開促進などの政策課題があることが示唆される．
