Outline of Final Research Achievements

Main research result is that we have achieved field investigations mainly in the area of Pacific Island countries such as Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Federal of Micronesia and Marshall Islands in order to solve the abundant automobile problem in such areas.
As a result we could publish 4 books and 2 articles making 19 presentations. In this research result, we could clarify the cause of the abundant automobile and the solution of its problem.
Our basic principle of its solution is to make the companies/countries who export the vecles into the area bear the liability of recycling the vehecles partly.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

太平洋島嶼国車両放置問題の解決策について基本的方向と具体的な提案を行なった。その基本的方向は,自動車リサイクル困難国に対して,リサイクルの自立的完結を求めることをしないで,島嶼国に対して自動車を輸出した国(政府)と輸出会社が持ち込み責任をとるという観点から国際協力/支援の一環として島嶼国の自動車リサイクル事業の国際分業を構築することを提案した。すなわちその国では自動車リサイクルが困難であることを知りながら,あえてその国に自動車を持ち込んだ者は,持込責任を果たすべきであり,島嶼国における自動車リサイクルへの協力/支援,あるいはリサイクルのプロセスの一部を自国で行なうべきであると提案した。
