新学習指導要領では、すべての学習の基盤となる資質・能力の一つとして、言語能力が挙げられている。見方・考え方を働かせた「深い学び」を実現する上でも、他者の考えと自分の考えを吟味したり検討したりすることを通して、自分で新しい考えを生み出すという創造的に考える力を育てるための具体的な方略が求められており、主体的に思考し、判断し、表現する上で、考えの形成がいかになされるか、考えの形成にはどのような方略が求められるのか、さらには、考えの形成に資する認知的な枠組みの形成に対する可能性を示すことができたことが学術的・社会的な意義である。
