Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Three research activities were carried out in 2020: 1) a large-scale online survey with 610 adult learners including university students from 24 different countries was conducted using the draft of the Open Thinking Scale (OTS) which was developed in Year 1; 2) based on the data collected from the survey, validation and refinement of OTS employing exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses was done following three stages: item generation, theoretical analysis, and psychometric analysis; 3) a research paper was developed and submitted to an international journal.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research has been going well without problems. Survey data were collected from a large group of students from 24 countries, which was beyond the expectation of the researcher. A paper was written and submitted to a well-known international journal.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2021, a quasi-experiment or correlational study will be carried out with students from two university classes where OER will be integrated in the teaching and learning process to investigate the effect of open education on open thinking using quantitative data from OTS and qualitative interview data. Based on the results, effective strategies to promote open thinking in OER-integrated classes will be suggested.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Due to the pandemic situation, the researcher could not make domestic and international trips. Also, the researcher used a free online survey site so there was no need to pay for the online survey system. The incurring amount will be used to make the research products open access and further editing.
