Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study analyzed Science-major Japanese students' attitude and the process to reach consensus when they discussed with international students who are non-native speakers of Japanese. Data of the discussions were collected based on different conditions, including the type of discussion, structure of participants, grade difference between the students, and different opinions between the students. The results revealed that there were problems in terms of role recognition of facilitators, auxiliary explanations to assist non-native speakers' understanding, unclear spoken confirmation of agreement, and responses to unshared information between the participants.

多文化共生社会を迎え、日本は産業面においても日本語を母語としない者と対話を行い、業務遂行にあたらねばならない時代を迎えている。日本人学生と日本語非母語話者である留学生との話し合い場面の問題点を明らかにすることは、社会に出る前の学生に対するコミュニケーション指導に大きな方向性を示すものである。特に理系分野においては、異文化コミュニケーションという側面からの教育的指導は十分でなく、得られた知見は有益なものとなり得る。
