Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Our focus in this project is to elucidate the spectral structure of turbulent Taylor-Couette (TC) flows. To that end, during the first year of the project, we have equipped the OIST-TC experimental setup with a custom "flying hot-wire probe." This probe enables us to obtain temporally-resolved velocity time series with one or both cylinders of the TC setup rotating. We have also obtained preliminary results on benchmarking the time series from the flying hot-wire probe with those from stationary hot-wire probe and from Laser Doppler Velocimetry.
