Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Our focus in this project is to elucidate the spectral structure of turbulent Taylor-Couette (TC) flows. During the first year of the project, we equipped the OIST-TC experimental setup with a custom "flying hot-wire probe." Using this probe, we measured temporally-resolved velocity time series for a wide range of the TC flow phase space. Our results show that the spectral structure of turbulent TC flows is in excellent accord with Kolmogorov's phenomenological theory of turbulence.
