Outline of Final Research Achievements

The production of functional antibodies in a short period of time is desired not only for molecular genetics experiments but also for therapeutic antibodies. In this study, by using a single-copy gene expression system and human artificial chromosomes, it became possible antibody library screening followed by gene amplification in CHO cells.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまでは抗体の大量合成にしか用いられてこなかったCHO細胞において、抗体ライブラリーのスクリーニングも行うことにより、既存の方法よりも迅速に結合活性の高い抗体を作製する方法を確立できた。この成果は、特に抗体医薬に向けて有用であり、インフルエンザウイルスやコロナウイルスのように早い対策が望まれるものに対しての活用が期待される。
