Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We prepared surfaces with a controlled roughness by using silica nanoparticles (NPs). We used these surfaces to determine how the roughness of a surface affects how a liquid flow changes the forces acting between a smooth silica surface and these rough surfaces [preparation of manuscript concerning effect of roughness on the forces]. The effect of a liquid flow and surface roughness on an attractive electrostatic force was also commenced, by using titanium dioxide NPs to form a rough surface. The forces were measured between a negatively charged silica particle and these positively titanium dioxide NPs surfaces, giving an attractive electrostatic force. These results are now being summarized, in order to publish in a manuscript.
