Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We studied the excitation of Rydberg atoms next to an optical nanofiber. We accounted for phenomena present in the experiment such as the AC Stark shifts and the Casimir-Polder interaction between the Rydberg atoms and the surface of the ONF. We considered 2 Rb atoms near an ONF and determined their van der Waals interaction. We studied the directional dependence of the coupling between a ONF-light field and a 2-level atom with an electric quadrupole transition. We also studied the transfer of angular momentum of guided photons to a two-level atom with an electric quadrupole transition near an optical nanofiber. This work strengthens the knowledge of Rydberg atom interactions with optical nanofibers.
