Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The PI could prepare thin porous films of a fluorinated polymer that shows white-to-transparent transition in water. The reverse process (transparent-to-white) also occurs at ambient conditions. After the evaporation of water, the porous structure remains unchanged. The PI also has investigated plant leaves with a white underlayer that consists of microfibers.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
In the 3rd year of the Covid outbreak, the university business is more or less back to normal, and the PI plans to visit the Co-I this fall to conduct studies on the plants grown in the Co-I's institute.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The Pi and Co-I are planning to continue the discussions online and the PI plans to visit the Co-I this FY to conduct experiments at the Co-I's institute. The PI will continue to image highly light-scattering petals and leaves and measure the refractive index change.

Causes of Carryover |
Because of the Covid pandemic, the research plan was delayed. The final year is 2022.
