Outline of Final Research Achievements

Neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal lobar degeneration, are caused by neuronal cell death, resulting in impairment of cognitive or motor functions. Although many neurodegenerative disease-causative genes have been identified, therapeutic agents have yet to be established.
Many of the proteins encoded by neurodegenerative disease-causative factors are ubiquitously expressed and widely distributed in the brain. But brain regions undergoing degeneration are limited by each neurodegenerative disease. Therefore, it is possible that there is a regulatory mechanism that determines the degenerative regions.
In this study, we generated novel mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases and investigated the mechanisms involved in the regulation of neurodegenerative regions.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
