Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, based on the issues identified through interviews with Nepalese residents in Japan who were infected with tuberculosis and required hospitalization, we created a Nepalese version of "What is DOTS?". This booklet explains the full scope of tuberculosis treatment in Japan, focusing on the role of public health centers, using animations, and includes elements of a support manual. Furthermore, it became evident that many medical terms exist in Japanese that do not exist in Nepalese, hindering communication with patients. Therefore, we created a Japanese-Nepalese-English version of "HUMAN ANATOMY: The Structure of the Human Body" on a trial basis. This is the first attempt of its kind in Japan, and it is expected to be used as a practical textbook for medical professionals and Nepalese residents in Japan.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近年、日本での結核発生届の特徴は、高齢者層と20代の若者の2層化が顕著になりつつあり、その若者の年代の多くが、在日外国人で占めている。とりわけ結核の蔓延国であるネパールからの在住者数は国内第4位で、言葉の問題もあり、この日本特有の結核対策についての社会制度を理解することが難しい。今回作成した冊子は、そのような課題解決のための第一歩になるであろう。また、同時に作成した「Human Anatomy:人体の構造」も、ここまで専門性を追究したネパール語版はないと言っても過言ではない。これは日本初の試みであり、医療関係者や在日ネパール人のための実践的教本としての活用が期待される。
