Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A case-control study of pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) was conducted to examine the association between roentgen photography or X-ray computed tomography scan experience and the onset of pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases. The results showed that the number of children with a history of chest roentgen photography was higher in pediatric Crohn's disease or pediatric ulcerative colitis than in controls. Regarding the time association between chest roentgen photography experience and the onset of pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases, one pediatric ulcerative colitis child had a chest roentgen photography in the same year, but all other cases had a chest roentgen photography taken before the onset of the disease. Analysis of single nucleotide variation in susceptible genes of inflammatory bowel diseases and its interactions with chest roentgen photography is currently underway.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
