Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we investigated the relationship between bodily self-consciousness (sense of agency and sense of body ownership) and the relearning of the body model (body representation in the brain), using an experimental paradigm we built. The body model of the hand revealed that the body model of the hand was relearned in the group who felt that the virtual hand was their own hand, by two performance indexes we proposed. However, no change was observed in the group that did not perceive the virtual hand as their own. In addition, bodily self-consciousness was established even with the virtual hands (a skeleton hand and a light-points hand) with low appearance similarity. This indicates that appearance similarity was not an essential factor. Furthermore, the force sensation in a grasping task activated bodily self-consciousness.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
