Outline of Final Research Achievements |
According to the political philosopher C. Lefort, after the king, whose body represented the center of political power, was beheaded in the French Revolution, the place of power in democracy became "empty." My research combined an aesthetic perspective and a political-philosophical one through an analysis of voices in contemporary theatre which form spaces acoustically shared among speakers/singers and listeners. In such spaces, the manifestation of a political "empty place" can be found. To this end, exemplary performance were engaged in which the collective voicing of the chorus plays an important role and the relationships within the chorus, as well as the relationships between the chorus, each individual on stage, and the audience, were analysed. A central finding is that the voices truly relevant to democracy do not unite the individuals who are gathered in the "empty place", but rather make the differences between them perceptible.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
