Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
First, I have given papers at the following conferences: 1. ‘Sonic Materialities: Aqueous Soundscapes in Anglo-Saxon Literature’, International Medieval Congress, Leeds University, July 1-4, 2019; 2. ‘The Earth Cries Out: Inanimate Aurality in Anglo-Saxon Literature’, The 35th Congress of the 日本中世英語英文学会, Tokyo Future University, November 30-December 1, 2019. Second, I have submitted an article for review to the journal English Studies based on my research: ‘Biophonic Soundscapes in the Vitae of St Guthlac’. I was prepared to deliver papers at two more conferences in 2020, both of which have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic: The Idea of the World in Anglo-Saxon England, Oxford University, March 20-21; 2. International Medieval Congress, Leeds University, July 6-9, 2020.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The project has been delayed slightly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is due to my inability to travel to the UK for my intended 2020 research trip. I have, therefore, turned to focus more on textual analysis for the time being. Currently, I am working on a second article expanding on the research presented at the 2019 Leeds IMC conference, which should be ready to submit to a journal in the next 3 months.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The future of the project is intended to be as follows: 1. Complete a second article, this one focusing on Aqueous Soundscapes in the Old English poem Andreas; 2. Once the COVID-19 crises has subsided, conduct several research trips to the UK for manuscript analysis and field recording; 3. Present further findings at international and domestic conferences when they are held; 4. Continue to prepare a draft of my second monograph, Early Medieval Soundscapes, based on the research of this project.
