Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
The ongoing pandemic has significantly impeded research progress, particularly in terms of data collection (as originally laid out in the grant application). Planned research and data collection in the National Library of Ireland and the British Library were postponed in FY2020 and FY2021. Although conference presentations (see §5 above, nos. 2 and 3) were delivered with the use of research publications and online databases (newspaper archives), work to convert these presentations into peer-reviewed publications has been delayed until archival materials have been consulted (see §8 below). As a result, I have returned to data collected in 2019 and developed another paper using that material (conference presentation no.1, see §5).
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
At the time of writing, it is hoped that at least one of two possible data collection trips can be undertaken, as follows: FY2022 (Q1-2): National Library of Ireland (August-September) FY2022 (Q3-4): NLI (February-March) Post-project: FY2023: Project-based research papers; planning for monograph Work proceeds turning the three conference presentations in §5 into peer-reviewed articles. Presentation no.1, based on data collection in 2019, should be sent out for peer review in the current fiscal year (FY2022). No further archival work is required. Presentations nos. 2 and 3 should be sent out for peer review in the next fiscal year (FY2023).Further archival work is required. Acquired research publications will be used to plan for the eventual publication of a monograph on the project topic.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The outstanding amount will be added to the fund for research trips (two if possible) and scientific publications in the final fiscal year. There have been no significant changes to the status of grant in the past fiscal year, apart from inevitable delays to planned research trips and presenting research findings owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
