Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
An initial pilot version of the questionnaire survey was completed in English. English items for the questionnaire survey were then translated into Japanese and adapted to be culturally-appropriate for the Japanese culture through an expert panel including multiple native Japanese speakers as well as multiple nursing professional faculty members. Japanese items on the questionnaire survey were put through several rounds of initial revisions. At the same time, the full research project was submitted to and approved by the university research ethics committee after several revisions and resubmissions.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The first draft of the questionnaire survey was completed in English and then subsequently translated into Japanese, after which it was revised according to the feedback and advice of a panel of native Japanese speakers whom were also nursing professionals according to schedule. initial submission to the university research ethics committee occurred in October. However, due to the challenge of submitting and conducting of an interview in Japanese, the proposal was returned for editing and resubmission. From that time onward, all Japanese forms, documents, and accompanying materials were proofed by a native Japanese-speaking faculty member before submission to the ethics committee. Upon resubmission, the research project was approved near the end of the academic year.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the 2020 academic year, the research plan will be modified and carried out as follows. First, as a test-run of the large-scale survey, approval will be gained from the university president to conduct a pilot study among the nursing professional faculty members. Follow-up interviews will also be conducted to receive feedback on the survey as well as pilot the follow-up interviews to be conducted in the main study. Quantitative results will be analyzed statistically for development of the survey instrument, while interview results will be analyzed qualitatively for cross-cultural nursing themes. With these results, the questionnaire will be revised, the survey will be conducted nationally. Results will then be analyzed statistically to prepare for follow-up interviews.

Causes of Carryover |
Because research was delayed due to additional time taken for approval by the university research ethics committee, research progress was delayed. While SPSS was purchased, a notebook computer has not yet been acquired. The carried-over funds from the 2019 academic year will be used in the 2020 year to this effect.
