Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The completed questionnaire was digitized and prepared for online distribution and data collection. A pilot survey was conducted among nursing university faculty. Follow-up interviews were conducted to receive feedback on the questionnaire, as well as to pilot a follow-up interview guide. Survey items were revised according to feedback from the nursing professional participants. Statistical analysis demonstrated acceptable distribution of responses, and the survey was finalized for distribution. Medical institutions willing to accept the current research project were recruited through direct mailing. As part of the questionnaire survey, volunteer subjects willing to be interviewed regarding their cross-cultural nursing experience are also being recruited.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and its affect on medical institutions, recruitment of institutions (hospitals) willing to approve the study has been lower than projected. Despite an initial recruitment mailing of over 350 domestic institutions among 18 prefectures, only 27 (response rate 7%) institutions have thus far agreed to allow their nursing staff to participate in the current study. While 15 nurses have agreed to participate in a follow-up interview, further recruitment at the institutional level is necessary to secure a representative sample of nurses in Japan at an acceptable confidence level.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the 2021 academic/fiscal year, further recruitment of medical institutions through direct mailing will be conducted, and survey responses will continue to be collected. Once a representative sample size of respondents has been achieved, survey data will be analyzed. Individual follow-up interviews with volunteer nursing professional participants will then be conducted. Interview data will be analyzed qualitatively and used to inform further analysis of the statistical results. Finally, based on the above results, the creation of cross-cultural nursing materials will begin. Results of the study, as well as materials, will be presented.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was unable to travel in person to participate in and present at academic conferences. I plan to use the remaining amount for travel to and participation in conferences, at which I will present the findings from this current research project.
