Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, research has progressed more slowly than anticipated. Initially, a single round of data collection on a nationwide questionnaire survey of working nurses in Japan was planned. However, as working nurses were the subjects of the survey, and hospitals were overloaded with patients, the number of responses was insufficient for statistical analysis. Thus, a second round of requests and recruitment letters became necessary to secure sufficient data. These were sent out in the second half of the year. Combined with the first round, over 700 total responses to the survey were collected from working nurses in Japan. Upon completion of data collection, statistical analysis of the survey results began and is currently in progress.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
While the research project was slated for completion in three years, the current pandemic has prompted a one-year extension in order to complete the follow-up interviews with volunteer nurse respondents. In the next year, statistical analysis of survey results will be completed, which will provide both data and content for the follow-up interviews and a working cross-cultural nursing questionnaire self-evaluation inventory for nurses in Japan.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Statistical analysis of the nationwide cross-cultural nursing questionnaire survey is nearing completion. Results will inform the follow-up individual semi-structured interviews with nurses which volunteered to be interviewed. Once the interviews have been completed, interview data will be analyzed qualitatively and triangulated with the quantitative results of the nationwide questionnaire survey.
Finally, using the results of both the questionnaire survey and interviews, English materials focusing on cross-cultural nursing and preparing nursing student for working with international patients will be developed.
In the current year, survey results will be presented at conferences both domestic and international.
|
Causes of Carryover |
In the next (final) year of this research project, expenses will be used mainly for the conducting of follow-up semi-structured interviews with volunteer participants from the nationwide questionnaire survey conducted this third year of the research project. Interview expenses may include travel, lodging, rental of an interview space if necessary, and gratuity for interview participants. Any remaining funds will be used for either research-oriented materials related to interpretation of data or incidental costs such as postal services.
