Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In AY2020, I completed data collection regarding welfare policies in East Asia. Based upon this data, two working papers exploring variations in policy choices have been written and prepared for presentation at conferences and later publication. The first explores the impact of population demographics on social policy choices in East Asia, especially the decision to pursue social investment policies. The second is focused on how government partisanship and political systems impact on social policy in the region. I have also begun preparing surveys regarding welfare attitudes among citizens of East Asian countries that will be fielded in AY2021.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
The Covid19 pandemic has caused noticeable delays to this research project. An increased teaching load and changes in research environment has meant that the amount of time that I have been able to dedicate to research has been limited.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In AY2021, I hope to field several surveys regarding welfare attitudes in East Asia and produce some original research in this area. I also am looking to move existing working papers on variations in welfare policy within East Asia towards publication.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The Covid19 pandemic prevented travel to international conferences and the hiring of RAs due to national health protocols.
