Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The pandemic has necessitated adjustments to my original research plan. Unable to travel to collect data, I have shifted from a mixed data collection/analysis design to a mainly secondary data-based design, requiring various additional analytical techniques which I was able to hone through my online participation in the University of Michigan’s ICPSR Summer Program (May to August 2020).
The project’s initial second-year plan hinged on conducting interviews, but because this could not be done in the current climate, I spent the project’s second year collecting data and refining my analyses using primarily official online sources and new knowledge acquired through workshop participation. I will present my research at the upcoming IMISCOE annual conference (submission status: accepted).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
I previously reported that the project was slightly behind schedule at the beginning of the project’s second year. Should the pandemic subside, I would still like to carry out my initially planned data collection abroad, but amid the ongoing pandemic and limited opportunities to collect and share data, this delay continues.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the upcoming third year of this project, I will continue to look for opportunities to collect data abroad while completing my ongoing refinements to my analyses. As I prepare and complete a journal article manuscript, I will also search for an international outlet to present my research findings and receive feedback which I can reflect in the paper before submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Funds remain from the second year because 1) I was not able to travel to collect data due to the pandemic; and 2) I reserved some funds to cover any potential fieldwork, data collection, and/or research presentation opportunities that may arise and require travel in the third year of the project.
