Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Based on the data collected from the household survey conducted in rural Ethiopia in 2019, I am investiating how an individual in a remote agricultural village think about outside matters, including people living in other villages, and imported products. The special feature of this research is that we measure the degree of openness of an individual from dictator game where the participants are given fixed amount of money to allocate to two partners, one from the same village and another from a different village. Taking the difference, we find that people are more generous toward people from the same village in average, but such difference does not explain how the farmers think about international trade and new ideas.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Fortunately, the data collection from overseas fieldwork has been completed before the outbreak of COVID 19, so the data collection was not affeccted. However, due to the principal investiator's maternity leave this year, the project has been delayed.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
On the top of analyzing the the effect of formal and informal social capital on the degree of openness in rural Ethiopian villages, I have launched a new data collection in rural Indonesia to see the effect of social networks among shrimp farming villagers. Due to COVID 19, the data collection will be done over the telephone survey. The impact of COVID19 and the mediating role of social networks will be examined.

Causes of Carryover |
