Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This project is aimed at investigating the effects of health insurance on health outcomes. The data from the Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions (CSLC) were used to analyze the health insurance impacts on the health behaviours of older people in Japan. By utilizing the data from 2013 and 2016, the difference-in-differences (DID) method was adopted to estimate the average treatment effects of the change in health insurance copayment. The estimation results reveal that copayment positively affects health behaviours, although its impact on risky health behaviours varies. Additionally, individuals with higher education levels tend to exhibit more pronounced changes in both positive and negative health behaviours. Several robustness tests were conducted, yielding consistent results.
