Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first half of FY2022, I was mainly immersed in the publication of my previous research, which provides the theoretical and analytical foundation to my ongoing research on Nepali migration and the diasporic formations. This included working closely with my publisher University of Washington Press, editorial team, production, and marketing departments. In addition, I worked with a cartographer, proof-reader, indexer in the final stages of book production. In the latter half of FY2022, I made an international research trip to the US for book talk and discussion to share my research findings and promote my book Surviving the Sanctuary City: Asylum-seeking work in Nepali New York (May 2023, University of Washington Press): Book Talk and Qualitative Methodology, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, Washington, D.C. May 2nd and May 8th; Book Promotion Meeting, School of Public Policy, University of Maryland, May 6th; Book Discussion, Global Affairs Department, Trinity Washington University, April 26th

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Progressed much more than the initial plan. I had an exciting opportunity to publish my work as a first single-authored academic book Surviving the Sanctuary City: Asylum-Seeking Work in Nepali New York by the University of Washington Press, 2023.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I will be participating and presenting my work at the following international institutions and settings in FY 2023: (i)Research results and book promotion meeting with Dr Leilah Vevaina, City University of Hong Kong in June; (ii)Meeting with colleagues at Hong Kong Shue Yan University for future research collaboration on the history of Nepali labor migration in Japan and Hong Kong in summer 2023; (iii)I have been invited for podcast interview about my book by New Books in Anthropology podcast; (iv)As an associate editor of European Bulletin for Himalayan Research I will be meeting with co-editors for research collaboration and promotion in the Himalayan region.
Other Research Scheme: Drafting and submission of an edited book proposal on Nepali Transregional Mobilities: Aspirations, Inter-connections, and Activism to Martin Chautari Press, Kathmandu, where I will continue to undertake research in FY 2023. An additional field site for my research is Hong Kong.
|
Causes of Carryover |
One of the main reasons for incurring amount: I did not make research trips and attended international conference and workshop via online. I used most of my time to complete my book, working with the publisher to place the manuscript for peer-review, including revision, re-reviews, editing, proofreading, indexing, and final stages of the production. I plan on using the incurring amount for travel in the next fiscal year: research trips to Hong Kong in summer for preliminary research site visits and establish contacts with colleagues at the following institutions: Hong Kong Shue Yan University, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University International research trip to Europe (UK and possibly Paris) in December/January and participate in the book promotion events and discussions.
