Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the final year I was able to present and share the findings gained in this project with a wider audience in East Asia in two international symposiums, one hosted by East China Normal University in China and the other by Kongju National University in South Korea. Given that social justice is a critical component of peace, I was also able in this year to deepen or further this study of education for social justice in East Asia by connecting it with research and practice about peace education in the region and conducting an international workshop, which involved scholars and practitioners from Japan, South Korea and China and aimed to develop a common peace education curriculum in East Asia. This project as a whole developed a three-dimensional framework of social justice for critical analysis of social justice education; examined and compared social justice education behind official rhetorics in Japanese and Chinese secondary education; and investigated the policy, practice and politics of social justice education in China. Due to the pandemic, I was only able to collect some but not enough data on social justice education in Taiwan. I reported the findings of this project in two articles published in two well recognized international journals and a total of six conferences, public seminars/webinars or symposiums across Japan, China and South Korea.
