Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A single session of mindfulness meditation for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) improved abdominal discomfort and abdominal pain, increased mindfulness, and altered EEG beta2 power%. The EEG alterations were localized compared to healthy controls. In the EEG discrimination between IBS and healthy controls based on long short-term memory, the baseline correct response rate was 69%. The possibility of discriminating IBS from healthy controls based on EEG was suggested. The correct response rate during mindfulness meditation was 54%, which was equivalent to a random decision. This result suggests that mindfulness meditation altered the EEG specific to IBS.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
