Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Rumination refers to passive and repetitive persistent thinking about the environment surrounding one's own distress and distress-related symptoms. In the present study, we focused on persistence, one of the factors that characterize rumination, and explored the cognitive neuroscientific mechanisms underlying this persistence. First, brain states at rest were measured using MRI to examine the relationship between these patterns and evaluations of the self; second, a task in which participants were asked to evaluate themselves within the MRI. The results of Experiment 1 showed that the higher the functional connectivity between the medial frontal lobe and the striatum, the higher the implicit dominance score. The results of Experiment 2 also revealed higher activity in the precuneus and posterior cingulate cortex during self-reflection.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
