Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We obtained the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory for the neutron 3P2 superfluidity relevant for interior of neutron stars up to the eighth order in the condensates and found that this order is necessary for the system to have the unique ground state, unlike the ordinary cases. We showed the phase diagram on the plane spanned by the temperature and magnetic field, and found a first-order phase transition.
We then studied surface effects of neutron 3P2 superfluids in neutron stars. 3P2 superfluids are in uniaxial nematic (UN), D2 biaxial nematic (BN), or D4 BN phase, depending on the strength of magnetic fields from small to large. By solving the GL equation, we found that there exist topological defects (vortices) on the surface in the ground state thanks to the Poincare-Hopf theorem.

計画していた中性子3P2超流動について、2本の論文と1本のプロシーディングスを出版したのでおおよそ予定通りである。さらに、予定外であった、変形ゴールドストーン模型の論文も出版したために、当初の計画よりも進展しているといえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

We will discuss what happens when a field that receives an Aharonov-Bohm (AB) phase develops a vacuum expectation value (VEV), using the example of an Alice string in a U(1)×SU(2) gauge theory coupled with complex triplet scalar fields. We introduce scalar fields belonging to the doublet representation of SU(2), charged or chargeless under the U(1) gauge symmetry, that receives an AB phase around the Alice string.
As for application to axion models, we will study the Lazarides-Shafi mechanism in detail and will show configuration of strings and walls. Even if Abelian axion strings with a domain wall number greater than 1 are formed in the early universe, each of them will be split into multiple Alice axion strings due to a repulsive force between the Alice strings even without domain wall.
