Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study developed planning support methodologies for urban structures to ensure the quality of residents' living environment, focusing on land use, facility placement, and public transportation. Firstly, we proposed a land use allocation model and a pedestrian distribution index, which revealed desirable land use patterns and the pedestrian activity patterns in urban areas. Secondly, we suggested an evaluation method for facility convenience and an urban core allocation model that considers the travel for visiting multiple facilities. This allowed us to quantitatively demonstrate ways to improve accessibility and decide the type and location of necessary facilities in relation to the public transportation network. Thirdly, we developed an evaluation and design method for the public transportation network, highlighting its characteristics in balancing travel demand and operating costs in coordination with facilities and urban cores.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
