Construction of an advanced ship routing system for the South-North shipping routes

Research Project

Project/Area Number 19K15251
Research InstitutionKobe University

Principal Investigator

陳 辰  神戸大学, 海事科学研究科, 客員准教授 (40793815)

Project Period (FY) 2019-04-01 – 2024-03-31
KeywordsWeather simulation / Ship motion simulation / Optimal ship routing
Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Research Achievements have been achieved in the year of 2022 including several journal-published papers such as "Comparative study of realistic ship motion simulation for optimal ship routing of a bulk carrier in rough seas"、"Novel safety evaluation technique for ships in offshore anchorage under rough seas conditions for optimal ship routing" as well as "Uncertainty Analysis of Weather Simulation Modeling during Navigation". These above-mentioned papers have focused on the key issues such as the uncertainties of weather forecast、the best method to make a realistic ship motion simulation, and the safety evaluation technique of offshore ship anchorage under rough seas conditions occurred in the North-South route, for which the attention and efforts have been made to construct the optimal ship routing system for the North-South route in the next step.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

As a visiting associate professor in the Kobe University, most of the research achievements have been done with the tight cooperation with professor and researchers in Kobe University, considering the effects of the Covid-19 in the past time.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

As the effects of the Covid-19 have gone away, the future research is supposed to be done with much more communication with researchers including Prof.Sasa in Kobe University. Short period visit to ship getting the on-board observation data as well as the face-to-face discussion of the next-step study with Prof.Sasa in Kobe University will become possible and anticipated.

Causes of Carryover

The international conference and traveling fee as well as communication fee could not occur owning to the effects of Covid-19 in the past time.
