Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Fluoride ion conducting solid electrolytes were suitable for the development of all solid state fluoride ion battery were synthesized using mechanical milling process and the fluoride ion diffusion coefficient is studied using PFG-NMR. The 19F diffusion coefficient for PbSnF4 measured by PFG-NMR was 1 x 10-12 m2/s at 300 degree celcius. PbSnF4 changes structure from beta to gamma phase at high temperatures, the diffusion coefficient measured by PFG-NMR is attributed to the gamma phase of PbSnF4. By varying the Pb/Sn ratio in Pb1-xSnxF4 (x=0.4-0.6), the high temperature gamma phase was prepared at room temperature with an increase in ionic conductivity of 9.4 x 10-4 Scm-1 for x = 0.45 confirmed by ac impedance analysis. Our efforts to measure the diffusion coefficient using PFG-NMR at room temperature was not successful due to the very short T2 relaxation time.
