Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Reagents such as sialidase, sialidase inhibitor, and β-galactosidase were added to the mucin-degrading system by P. gingivalis, and the mixture was incubated at 37 ° C for 4 hours. After that, three types of gas concentrations of hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide were measured, and the degree of mucin decomposition by CBB staining and PAS staining was confirmed. Significant differences in hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan concentrations were observed between the sialidase + β galactosidase addition group and the other groups. CBB staining showed no change in the degree of mucin decomposition due to the addition of reagents. In PAS staining, mucin degradation proceeded due to the addition of sialidase during incubation for 4 hours.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
近年、治療困難な生理的口臭を発生させる基質として唾液中のムチンは注目されているが、発生経路は複雑で未だ不明な点も多く、より詳細な検討が求められている。本研究で得られた成果は、まだ十分検討されていないため、継続的な研究が必要であるが、唾液中に含まれるシアリダーゼが、ムチン代謝を促進し、口臭産生に関与する可能性が示唆された事は、口臭の発生メカニズムの理解を促し、将来の、口臭抑制に有効な手段の開発につながるのではないかと考えている。
