Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Medication-Related Osteo Necrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) marked by necrosis of bone is a big problem in dental field. However, the causes have not solved yet and there is no treatment for it. We have reported the effects of statins, which are drugs for dyslipidemia, on promoting bone formation and soft tissue healing in the extraction socket. Therefore, we hypothesized that statins promote the healing of MRONJ and verified the healing effect of statins on MRONJ. Using MRONJ-like rats, fluvastatin was administered and evaluated near the site of MRONJ onset. As a result, it was confirmed that the administration of statins in both soft and hard tissues promotes healing.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
