Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We conducted a cross-sectional study of the association between oral health and cognitive function in a community-dwelling population aged 50 years or older living in the district of Ohasama. It has shown that the absence of regular dental visits (odds ratio: 3.5) and decreased tongue pressure (odds ratio: 2.5) were significantly associated with cognitive dysfunction. In analyses stratified by age, due to insufficient statistical power, it hasn't been shown that oral health indicators were significantly associated with cognitive impairment in those with <65, 65-74, and >=75 age groups. The results of the present study suggest that maintaining adequate oral health contributes to maintaining cognitive function.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
