Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to develop a communication education program utilizing the cognitive-behavioral model for nurses and to verify its effectiveness. Although "empathy" and "listening" are taught as natural attitudes for nurses, opportunities for systematic training are limited, and it is left to individual nurses' qualities and personalities. Based on the knowledge that communication training has been shown to be useful for developing nursing quality and improving mental health in the United States and other countries, we developed a communication education program utilizing the cognitive-behavioral model and verified its effectiveness. The educational program developed by psychiatrists and psychologists, who are skilled clinicians in cognitive-behavioral therapy, was implemented for 38 nurses and other staff members for one day.
