Outline of Final Research Achievements

Many terminal cancer patients wish to spend their final days in their familiar homes. However, discharge support for family caregivers may be inadequate. Palliative Care Unit Nurses (PCUNs) are aware of the need to provide discharge support to the families of terminally ill cancer patients, but we felt it necessary to confirm the reality that despite this awareness, adequate support is not being provided. Therefore, we conducted a self-administered questionnaire survey of 1,227 PCUNs.
The results of an exploratory factor analysis on the support needed for family caregivers were classified into four factors. The results of this study suggest facilitators for PCUNs to provide more comprehensive discharge support to family caregivers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
