Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Obesity and type 2 diabetes are one of the most serious health problem worldwide. In recent years, it has been suggested that gut microflora is a contributing factor for the leading of obesity. Bifidobacterium, one of the gut microflora, produces acetic acid as a final metabolite. It has been indicated that supplementation of acetic acid has function of anti-obesity and antidiabetic. Therefore, in this study, we investigated novel function of Bifidobacterium, isolated from infant feces, which improve energy metabolism and prevent obesity. As a result, it was suggested novel Bifidobacterium was the strain having the potential to inhibit obesity and diabetes.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
