Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research in the last FY concentrated on the international energy governance level in Southeast Asia to complement the preliminary findings of the previous field research in Myanmar. The reason is that the rapid deployment of modern renewable energy generation capacity in the fast-growing Southeast Asian region will be crucial to ensure that the region can meet its increasing future energy demand in a sustainable way. However, many countries will need assistance through international cooperation and foreign aid to develop their sustainable energy sources. The project conducted an analysis of official aid databases and second-party data to explore the details of the energy-related aid contributions of the main donors to Southeast Asia during the last two decades. It also created an entirely new database to compensate for incomplete official data about Chinese energy-related foreign aid to the region. The research project has been going to plan and results been published in international peer-reviewed articles and at international academic conferences, workshops and public symposia. In addition, public-academic events have been organized at Kyushu University to integrate the project's results in the wider policy discourse on sustainable energy finance in Southeast Asia.
