Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The comparative study of Nordlingen in Germany and Hita in Oita has brought profound insights into the place-making of fan pilgrimage sites and how fan tourism can evolve. It is important to acknowledge fans as an important and loyal tourist segment that can provide valuable hints for the planning. Moreover, copyright is an important factor that all involved parties must understand. Lastly, local communities - authorities, entrepreneurs, and citizens - should be included into decision-making processes. A longitudinal qualitative research approach that takes into account various stakeholders of fan pilgrimage/tourism is necessary to receive a full picture of the conditions and to implement sustainable tourism strategies.
