2018 Fiscal Year Annual Research Report

Mechanism, evolution and regulation of multidrug resistance

Research Project

Project/Area Number 18H06103
Allocation TypeSingle-year Grants
Research InstitutionOsaka University

Principal Investigator

ZWAMA MARTIJN  大阪大学, 産業科学研究所, 特任助教(常勤) (40827052)

Project Period (FY) 2018-08-24 – 2020-03-31
KeywordsRND / Transporter / Antibiotic / Resistance / AcrB / Evolution
Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Studied the evolution of multidrug efflux pumps (RND transporters), and observed the environmental adaption of these pump within specific organisms. The antibiotic and inhibitor specificities of an ancient RND transporter were identified. In this fiscal year FY2018 we could publish (and submit) one review article and one research article.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The experiments and results were performed very efficiently, by a relatively fast data output and interesting and revealing data, which brought significant new insights in the evolution of multidrug efflux transporters of the RND superfamily. One review article and one research article on this research within one fiscal year was achieved.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

Studying more RND multidrug efflux transporters and also analyze drug resistance in different bacterial strains.
