Outline of Final Research Achievements |
By setting the beginning of modernity not with the French Revolution but with the Protestant Reformation, it became evident that the Reformation was a movement that shook the entire Western Europe, with simultaneous changes in the national systems occurring in the Nordic countries and England. In Spain, amidst the Counter-Reformation, many converts and descendants of converts were involved in theatrical activities. Conversely, in Italy, there were hardly any converts involved in theatrical activities; instead many church offcials (including secretaries to cardinals) and courtiers are involved. While professional playwrights emerged in England and Spain, Italy continued to have courtiers and men of letters involved in playwriting. The impact of the Reformation had a significant influence on theatrical activities in each country, but it became clear that the manifestation and direction of that impact were vastly different.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
