Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The group of paintings called "Doro-e" were produced from the Edo through the beginning of the Meiji periods. Doro-e is little recognized, except for some researchers in specific academic fields of studies. The principal researcher of this Doro-e project(study) had the opportunity to obtain and investigate the private collection of Mr. Shinichiro Watanabe, which led to the scientific research on materials used for Doro-e in addition to literature surveys. The result indicates that Doro-e is not necessarily positioned as conventional "folk paintings" but have a new aspect in the choice of colorants as well as its painting technique and materials and the drawing for perspectives in comparison with European oil paintings. We also compared with glass paintings techniques and materials. Our methods that we studied for Doro-e will contribute many collectors who live in JAPAN and cannot build the well-equipped storage, are able to improve the environment for their collections by our methods.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
