Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of the study is to examine what kind of theory Xiangshu Yi(象数易) has, and what influence has had on Japan. Xiangshu Yi is the method of interpreting I-ching(易経), which is an ancient Chinese divination text, by using symbols and mathematics. First, I researched texts related to Xingshu Yi and clarified the characteristics of the printed books and their divination methods. Next, I collected "Shueki meikiryaku hiden(周易命期略秘伝)", which has been handed down in Japan, and examined its contents. As the result, the books can be into two parts: "Hyakuno ou(百衲襖)" texts, independent texts.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
