Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this period, the data collection and the analysis phase of the research were both completed. This consisted of face to face interviews with 10 participants. The interviews were transcribed and subjected to analysis using NVivo qualitative analysis software. This generated a number of findings.
I presented the initial findings from the analysis at the JALT International conference in November 2020, which was held online due to the pandemic situation. I also wrote a short paper using data from one of the participants as a case study. At present I am still in the process of attempting to get this short paper published.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to the impact of COVID 19 the writing and dissemination of the project has been delayed. In particular, two conferences that I was planning to present the project at were postponed due to COVID 19. The funds from 2020 will be used to attend the rescheduled conferences in 2021.
In addition to this, the writing of the final main research paper has been delayed due to the influence of COVID 19 on my other duties, which has left me with less time that I had anticipated. The funds that were initially allocated to be used for this purpose in 2020, will now be reallocated to 2021 to allow me to complete the final writing stage of the project , for example by purchasing books.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I will continue to look for a publishing destination for the shorter cast study paper that had already been written. I am hoping to publish this in a peer-reviewed domestic journal.
I am also currently writing a longer paper using the full data set and hope to publish it this year. This will consist of a single research paper which I will endeavour to get published in a peer-reviewed international journal. Research funds from 2020 will be used to complete this in 2021, for example by purchasing books.
I am scheduled to present at the SS23 conference in Hong Kong (now online) in June 2021 and am waiting to hear if my proposal has been accepted for the BAAL conference in the UK. Research funds from 2020 will be used to attend these rescheduled events

Causes of Carryover |
The reason for the Delay is due to the impact of COVID 19 on different aspects of my research project. Conferences that were initially scheduled for 2020 have been postponed until 2021 and delays to the writing of the article were caused by the impact of COVID 19 on other areas of my working life.
Unspent funds that were previously allocated for 2020 will now be used in 2021 for the purposes of attending rescheduled conferences and for completing the writing of a final journal article.
