Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study focuses on vocational education that is directly related to the school-to-work transition into the labor market. In particular, this study examines (1) wage effects, (2) job quality for youth, and (3) quality of the job environment. The findings show that secondary vocational education graduates in Indonesia increase their wages compared to general education graduates by accumulating years of work experience as they were able to enter the labor market quicker and earlier than both college graduates and secondary general education graduates. In addition, the effect of years of working experience on wages was stronger for men than for women, suggesting the need to improve women’s vocational education. Overall, secondary vocational education is helpful for the school-to-work transition, especially for workers who had disadvantaged family backgrounds as children.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
