Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The project has been successfully executed. Sediment samples were obtained in collaboration with Prof. R.G. Keil at the University of Washington. Amino acids were extracted and desalted at the Geological Institute at ETH Zurich and subsequently isolated by 2 or 3 dimensional high pressure liquid chromatography at JAMSTEC. These amino acid isolates were analyzed by NanoEA-IRMS by Dr. N. Ogawa at JAMSTEC for their ascertaining their elemental purity and stable carbon isotopic composition. Following this, the amino acid isolates were sent for 14C analysis by accelerator mass spectrometry to the University of Tokyo by the group of Prof. Y. Yokoyama and also to ETH Zurich by the group of Prof. T. Eglinton.
