Outline of Annual Research Achievements

持続可能な社会の構築に向けて再生可能エネルギーの導入が進む中、その中核技術たり得る次世代型水電解による水素製造装置の開発が急務である。本研究課題では、過酷なpH条件で操業される従来型水電解に比較して、コスト・安全上の懸念を払拭し得、分散型利用が可能であり、さらに他の要素技術との親和性が高い「中性pH駆動水電解」に関する検討を行った。
本研究では、まず中性pHにおける電解質水溶液の物性、とくに1.0 Mを超える濃厚電解質溶液物性の物性評価に取り組んだ。とくにリン酸塩等から構成される電解質水溶液を対象に、その電気伝導度および水溶液粘度を様々な温度および濃度範囲で実測し、またその測定結果を踏まえてイオン径や活量等の物性を定量的に評価した。それらを用いて数値計算を実施し、水の電気分解反応に係る物質移動速度を最大化し得る条件を明らかにした。
その結果を踏まえ、モデル電極を用いて、種々の温度・反応速度条件における水電解性能評価試験を実施した。その結果、中性pH濃厚緩衝溶液を電解質に用いた系においては、酸・塩基性水溶液を電解質に用いた場合に比べて、高い定常活性と安定性が観測された。
本結果は中性pH水溶液が水電解における電解質として優れていることを示している。本研究成果は論文や学会で発表した。
